Philosophy
Kiryoku Dojo is a place for traditional Okinawan martial arts. We live by the values and principles of original Okinawa Goshinryu Kempo (Okinawa Kempo Karate). Loyalty to the dojo, our core values, the Dojo Kun (dojo rules), and the Sensei is a fundamental requirement for participating in classes and being part of the community. Active participation in events is also encouraged.
Within the framework of courtesy and mutual respect, everyone here is given the freedom to develop their individual strengths. We reject forced conformity and military-style obedience. We foster a tolerant environment where age, gender, religion, or political views do not matter. Every student at Kiryoku Dojo has the same rights and responsibilities and is treated with the same level of respect. Members and supporters of all legally permitted political parties and religious communities are warmly welcome at Kiryoku Dojo. We strictly reject extremism of any kind, intolerance, or the demeaning of fellow students or the Sensei.
Kiryoku Dojo maintains a family atmosphere. This means every student is responsible for themselves, their peers, and the dojo. We are a community that sticks together through thick and thin, providing each other with support for everyday life. Training improves both the internal and external strength of our students. It is about strengthening the inherent good in everyone and bringing it to the surface, so that we may all become better people and strengthen social cohesion—not just within the dojo, but in society as a whole. We view martial arts as an effective form of personal development that builds self-confidence, perseverance, and discipline, ultimately leading to greater success in both life and career.
