Okinawa Kempo Karate is what we call the combination of two traditional Okinawa Karate/Kempo styles: Tamashii-Ryu (Goshinryu Kempo) and Shidokan Karate. At Kiryoku Dojo, we teach these styles as one cohesive system. This fusion provides the most effective Kempo Karate training to protect your life or the life of someone else in critical situations. Additionally, our training boosts self-confidence and the determination to stand up for your beliefs and needs. In today's chaotic and uncertain world, the ability to navigate your path with complete clarity is not just valuable—it’s essential for survival!

Tamashii-Ryu
Founded by Soke Heinz W. Köhnen, Tamashii-Ryu combines traditional and modern fighting techniques. This style includes strikes, kicks, throws, joint locks, and ground fighting to ensure comprehensive self-defense. Known for its toughness and effectiveness in real combat, Tamashii-Ryu also incorporates grappling techniques. Soke Köhnen emphasized the importance of mental strength and discipline, which is a key part of our training. [More information can be found here.
Shidokan Karate
Founded by Yoshiji Soeno, Shidokan Karate is often called the "Triathlon of Martial Arts" because it combines elements of Karate, Muay Thai, and Judo. This style is known for its versatility and effectiveness in full-contact fighting. Shidokan integrates both striking and grappling techniques, blending the hardness of Kyokushin Karate with the flexibility of other martial arts. More information can be found here.
Our Roots
Dominik Lübben, the founder of our dojo, had the privilege of training under Grandmasters Soke Heinz W. Köhnen (Tamashii-Ryu) and Seikichi Iha (Shidokan). From Soke Köhnen, he received the Kayden (teaching license) for Tamashii-Ryu, highlighting his deep connection and comprehensive knowledge of this style.
Our Approach
At Kiryoku Dojo, we focus not on sports competition but on the original Karate as a way of life. While we respect the achievements of athletes, we clearly distinguish our practice from Karate as a sport. Our Karate is more than a discipline—it’s a philosophy that strengthens the entire person. In today’s uncertain and chaotic world, Karate provides great support and helps shape and strengthen character.
